Crappie fishing is one of the most fun fish to catch. They are plentiful fish, fight hard, and taste good as well.
One of the most productive ways to catch crappie is with minnows. Hook the minnow through the lips on a small jighead. You can either cast it out and slowly reel it in or let sit like bait. On a boat, you can troll it as well. These methods can yield walleye, too. My favorite way to catch crappie is with a tube or grub on a small jighead. There are special tube jig heads in which you slide the jighead into the tube. With a grub, reel with a slow to medium paced retrieve. With a tube, reel very slowly and twitch the tube every couple of seconds. An in-line spinner with a steady retrieve at medium depths is a great fish-getter also. I caught a 16-inch on one last week. When setting the hook on a crappie, do not set to hard. They have very soft mouths, and are often called "Papermouths". Minnows, wax worms, and night crawlers under a bobber work well, too.
